PANDAS Foundation Awareness Week 2023

We want to say a big thank you to every single person that took part i n PANDAS Awareness Week this year, between 9-15th October 2023. During the week we celebrated the work of The PANDAS Foundation and everyone involved in it! You can find our copy of the press release about the week here

This PANDAS Awareness Week we focussed and highlighted our core value as a charity….to be there WHATEVER THE WEATHER, and so many of you joined it! It was a joy to see.

During the week we are asked our PANDAS audience (ie you!) to share images of an umbrella in whatever weather you liked, with a bit of info from them about why they think support PANDAS offers is so important, along with the hashtags #WhateverTheWeather and #PAW23.

 We’d also like to thank so many of you for completing our survey recently, finding out about your experiences receiving mental health support care for your GPs and NHS services. The results were not surprising but still really sad to read.

The results showed that

  • 49% of respondents were dissatisfied with the medical professional they saw;
  • 24% felt their concerns weren’t taken seriously at an initial appointment with a medical professional;
  • 30% weren’t seen within an acceptable timeframe

In response to this, we have been working with our fantastic Ambassador Dr Punam Krishan along with Make Birth Better to create a new, free resource which parents and carers can take along to their GP/healthcare provider to help them explain exactly how they are feeling, and in turn receive the right support for them. We launched this during PANDAS Awareness Week and have already received some great feedback about it. which is brilliant. For more info about this new, free, downloadable resource, please click here.

Lastly, we’d like to say a big thanks to our wonderful business collaborators who worked with us this #PAW23 to raise as much awareness and money for PANDAS as possible. Thanks to the fabulous 5am Mama who is donating ALL profits from this wonderful, PANDAS branded umbrella to us after they sold out in a day! And to the fab Seven Seventeen for working with Dani Dyer on this gorgeous candle to raise as much money as possible for us too – we couldn’t do what we do without you!
